6. A book that makes me sad.
Lost Boys * Orson Scott Card
The first time I read this novel, I cried a nice, ugly, loud cry. I was channeling some Grace Kelly mixed with Audrey Hepburn with that snot-heave of a sob.
The next time I read this novel, I cried from chapter 1 onwards (but with more class, and less noise), because I knew what was coming.
I know Card's personal beliefs and recent social behaviors have people up in arms, and I completely understand--I don't like it, either, at all--but it does not take away from the slow, brilliant, heart-breaking reveal of this novel.
